This is a vibrant, full-bodied Ripasso from Valpantena produced from mostly Corvina Veronese with some Rondinella and Corvinone wine grapes. Ripasso is a winemaking technique that takes Valpolicella (from the Veneto region) and then introduces the lees of Amarone into the wine. There is enough residual sugar in those lees to allow a second fermentation that produces a bigger, richer wine. This vintage is lovely and balanced with bright dark berry fruit, meaty, chocolate, sweet dried tobacco leaf, soft spice and vanilla flavors, full and lush on the palate. Tannins are rich.
